Diversity and Why do I care?
How diversity and babysitting go hand in hand.

A kit for babysitting
To be a professional babysitter, you need to make a babysitter’s kit. This kit can contain everything you need to be a good babysitter. With your babysitting kit, you can bring items to make your time with the children fun. Children will always be happy to see you if you bring fun things to do that are appropriate for their age group. As we continue learning about developmental stages, we will discuss items that you could have ready to take with you. Be sure to write down the items you may want to put into your kit! Remember, you may have to have multiple small boxes to hold your items for the age groups. You can choose what to take when you get a babysitting job. You also need to bring items for safety and other items to have handy.

Developmental Stages- Babies
Babies have their own unique problems and challenges. Let's learn about babies

Developmental Stages-Toddlers
Toddlers are a challenge. Your babysitting kit will be invaluable!

Developmental stages-Preschoolers
Preschoolers are starting to get smarter and able to do a lot more than toddlers. This age group can be easier than toddlers.

Developmental stages-School-age children
School-age children will challenge you because they "know it all". You have to out-think a school-age child.

Introduction to First Aid
The following is an introduction to first aid. It is recommended that the student attend a first aid class to increase their knowledge and practice what is discussed in this chapter.

ABCs and other first aid emergencies
We need to see if the child is alive when there is an accident and may need first aid. Knowing the ABCs will help you know what to do.

Choking
We want to remember the A B Cs of life. A person needs to have an A-Airway. They must B-Breathe, and they must have C-Circulation which means their heart must be beating. You already know how to open an airway and see if they are breathing. If a child you are babysitting chokes on something it can stop their breathing and soon their heart will stop without oxygen.

Shock and how to treat it
Shock can kill if it is not treated quickly. It is so easy to help fix so that shock doesn't get worse.

Circulation
Circulation is how the body sends blood to every part of the body. As we learned before, the body needs oxygen to live. So we have to make sure the person has an open airway. We learned how to open an airway in the CARE chapter. We need to give the person two breaths along with pushing the blood to the brain and back to the heart.

Safety
Thousand of children are injured every year!  Children under 10 years old are most commonly injured at home and most are under 5 years old!  Some of the main causes of death in the home are: *Fire       *Falls            *Choking          * Poisoning          *Suffocation          *Drowning

Going to the Beach
Taking or watching children at the beach

Special Situation
Sometimes a babysitter might encounter a problem with the treatment of a child. The following are a few descriptions of these encounters and what to do.

YOU ARE DONE!
🎉 YOU DID IT! Congratulations! You completed the I Res-Q U Babysitting Course! You have learned a lot! You learned how to care for babies and children, recognize dangers, handle emergencies, give basic first aid, and make safe choices while babysitting. But being a great babysitter isn't about knowing everything. It's about being prepared, responsible and confident enough to know what to do — and when to ask an adult for help. ⭐ Remember the most important things: Keep the children safe. Pay attention — your phone can wait. Never be afraid to call a parent or trusted adult if you aren't sure what to do. Call 9-1-1 when there is a serious emergency. Have fun! Kids remember babysitters who play with them, listen to them and make them feel safe.
